Morocco’s national lifesaving team won 7 medals, including 4 gold, at the Lifesaving Sports World Championships (LWC 2022) held from September 23 to October 3 in Riccione, Italy. The Moroccan delegation, made up of 10 athletes (5 men and 5 women), distinguished itself during this world event which saw the participation of more than 2,000 athletes.
In a statement to MAP, upon his arrival at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, Omar Akik, member of the office of the Royal Moroccan Rescue Federation (FRMS) and president of the Moroccan delegation, underlined that the Moroccan sportsmen signed a great performance during these world championships which saw the participation of the best athletes in this discipline at world level. “The national elements achieved a good result by winning seven medals, including four gold, during these championships marked by a high level of competition,” he noted. He added that the Moroccan champions competed with the best athletes at the world level, especially those from Australia, the country where this sport was born.
The double gold medalist in beach sprint and beach flag, Chakir Machmour indicated, for his part, that “winning two medals at the sport lifesaving world championships for my first participation is a source of satisfaction”, expressing his joy at having succeeded in honoring Morocco during this major sporting event. He said that “this result is the fruit of the efforts made by all the stakeholders, in particular the coaches and the staff of the Royal Moroccan Rescue Federation, who have made available to us all the means to represent Morocco as it should. “.
Ayat Allah El Anouar, who won bronze in the 400m surf race, for his part, noted that “the national elements were well supported during the preparations for these championships, as evidenced by the good results achieved against high level athletes.
She thus underlined the good level of the competition which, according to her, constituted an opportunity for the national team to acquire an important experience and to improve its level in anticipation of the next deadlines, adding that “the results obtained are deserved given the preparations” for these championships.
