Tunisia has decided to recall its ambassador to Morocco for consultations.

It should be noted that Morocco decided on Friday to cancel its participation in the work of TICAD8 and to recall its ambassador to Tunis for consultations, due to the participation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in these meetings, according to a press release from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a declaration published at dawn on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tunisia affirms the absolute rejection of the accusations of “hostility” towards Morocco and of attacking the interests of Moroccans and Moroccan living forces.

Tunisia insists on its neutrality and its respect for international legality, expressing its deep astonishment at the “unacceptable” Moroccan reaction.

And to add, Tunisia undertakes to respect UN resolutions in the same way as those of the African Union, including Tunisia and one of its founding members. It should be noted in this context that the African Union, as the main participant in this conference, called on all its members, including the SADR, to take part.

the AU then sent an individual invitation to this country, pursuant to the decisions of the Executive Council of the African Commission during the meeting on July 14 and 15, 2022 in Lusaka in the presence of a Moroccan delegation.

Moreover, the department recalls in its statement, the Sahrawi Republic had participated in the 6th edition of TICAD in 2006 in Nairobi (Kenya) and in the 7th edition held in 2019 in Tokyo.

She also participated in other regional meetings such as the Africa-Europe Summit in February 2022 in Brussels and in the presence of a Moroccan delegation.

Consequently, Tunisia considers that there is no logical reason justifying Morocco’s declaration, especially since Tunisia insisted on complying with African legislation relating to partnerships and the organization of meetings.

Tunisia, which stresses in its declaration its attachment to its diplomatic constants banishing any interference in the internal affairs of countries and which affirms respect for their choices, insists, just as much, on the sovereignty of its decisions and respect for its own choices. .

On Friday, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement affirming its non-participation in TICAD and the recall of the Moroccan ambassador to Tunis, in reaction to the invitation of the Sahrawi Arab Republic to its meetings.
