Before concluding a new preferential trade agreement, Tunisia must first assess the impact of the agreements already concluded with other countries, such as the one with Turkey in 2005, which today constitutes a veritable iron ball of the national economy.

This comment is inspired by the progress of talks with Indonesia to conclude a preferential trade agreement and were the focus of the meeting between the Minister of Trade and Export Development, Kalthoum Ben Rejeb, and Ambassador Zuhairi Al-Masrawy.

The agreement aims to strengthen the partnership and develop trade which did not exceed the 130 million dollar mark in 2021, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday March 18, 2023.

Al-Masrawy said his country is considering an increase in imports from Tunisia, mainly olive oil and dates, and praised their positioning in international markets and their quality.

Jakarta, he added, is keen to further ease procedures to encourage Tunisian operators to export and invest in the country given the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

An invitation has been extended to Indonesia to participate in the Halal Expo trade fair to be held from May 31 to June 4 in Tunis.
