Tunisia: Foreign Investment Increased by 17.6% In the First Half of 2023, to $393 Million

(Agence Ecofin) – The manufacturing industry tops the sectors having attracted the most foreign direct investment over the first six months of the current year, ahead of those of energy and agricultural services.

Foreign investment flows in Tunisia reached 1.21 billion dinars (about 393 million dollars) in the first half of 2023, thus registering an increase of 17.6%, compared to the same period of 2022, according to published data, Thursday, August 24 by the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA).

These flows are distributed between portfolio investments which recorded an increase of 3354% compared to the same period of 2022, to reach 143.4 million dinars, and foreign direct investments (FDI), which increased by 5 % to settle at 1.08 billion dinars.

FIPA also indicated that the manufacturing industry leads the sectors that attracted the most FDI during the first six months of the current year, with 48.1% of total flows. Next come the energy (21.6%), services (30.0%) and agriculture (0.3%) sectors.

In a statement to the official Tap news agency, FIPA Director Hatem Soussi said the pace of FDI growth in Tunisia is “acceptable and positive”, even though the country has not yet returned to levels recorded before the coronavirus pandemic.
