In Tunisia, three and a half months after the disappearance at sea of a boat borrowed by 17 people, the inhabitants of the town of Zarzis, in the south of the country, continue to demand that the truth be revealed in this case.

A demonstration took place on Friday, January 6 to put pressure on the authorities. Families want to know exactly what happened. To date, seven bodies have been found out of the 17.

Joined by RFI, Ali Kniss, an activist at the head of the citizens’ movement of Zarzis explains the demands of the population. “  We carried out the research at sea alone, the inhabitants of Zarzis and the fishermen of the city, with our own means, with fishing boats. The Tunisian state did not support us. He left us alone facing the sea and distress. We then discovered a first crime, the illegal burial of four of the bodies in the cemetery called “the gardens of Africa” in which lie the bodies of unidentified migrants,” he reveals.

“  On the corpses that we found, there were traces of blows, wounds. Some had their teeth knocked out or blows to the back of their necks. Our demands are clear: truth and justice. Our demands have not changed. We want to know where the missing are whose bodies have not yet been found. There are still ten left in all and our movement will continue until these demands are heard. We want justice to be done and responsibilities to be clarified,” added Ali Kniss.
