Tunisia and Germany Commit to Protecting Food Security

The German official reaffirmed his country’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Tunisia in all areas, especially those related to agriculture and water resources management,” indicates a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture published Sunday.

The Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Abdelmonem Belaati, had, on the sidelines of the 16th World Food and Agriculture Forum (GFFA), organized in Berlin from January 17 to 20, interviews and working meetings with senior German officials.

He spoke with the German State Secretary for Agriculture and Food, Jochen Flasbarth, about ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the agricultural field, in particular on the management and use of agricultural water in agriculture.

The German official reaffirmed his country’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Tunisia in all areas, especially those related to agriculture and water resources management, according to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture published on Sunday.

Belaati also had a working session with one of the members of the Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL). The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the pilot project of Tunisian-German cooperation on the consolidation of food safety and the protection of consumer health in Tunisia, carried out in collaboration with the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR ).

He insisted on the importance of this project and the need to speed up its implementation to protect the Tunisian consumer, ensure healthy and quality products, and thus improve their competitiveness in foreign markets.

The minister also met with a delegation from the “Leibniz Institute”. The two parties agreed to organize remote meetings, with Tunisian and German experts, to discuss ways to develop agricultural production in arid zones in Tunisia.

Furthermore, the Minister of Agriculture chaired an economic meeting, organized at the headquarters of the Tunisian embassy in Berlin, on the agricultural partnership between Tunisia and Germany in the presence of around fifty participants representing ministries and official Germanic bodies, economic cooperation organizations, and some Tunisian and German businessmen.
