Tunisia: 4% Increase in Commercial Traffic in Ports in 2021

Commercial traffic in ports increased by 4% in 2021, compared to 2020, according to data published on Tuesday by the Merchant Navy and Ports Office (OMMP).

Regarding passenger traffic, the year 2021 recorded an increase of 83%, or 584,774 passengers, compared to 319,231 passengers in 2020. Car traffic increased by 76%, or 242,089 cars during the year 2021 against 137,746 cars in 2020.

As for the movement of ships, it marked a slight decrease of 2%, reaching 4,464 ships in 2021 compared to 4,567 ships in 2020.

Commercial seaports, including the port of Skhira, recorded traffic volumes amounting to 28.013 million tonnes in 2021 compared to 26.811 million tonnes in 2020.

The movement of rolling units in Tunisian ports recorded, in 2021, an increase of 4% to reach 148,830 units in 2021 against 142,633 units in 2020, while the tonnage of rolling units increased by 8%.

During the same period, container traffic, in 2021, decreased by 3%, reaching 469,518 thousand TEU units compared to 484,349 thousand TEU units, during the year 2020. (Tap)
