Bis repetita for the Algerian judoka Fethi Nourine (-73 kg) Qualified for the Tokyo Olympics (July 23 – August 08), he decided not to participate in the competition.

Fethi Nourine indeed announced his withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics for the same reason two years ago during the 2019 world judo championship. Qualified in the 2nd round of the competition, he had to face the  Israeli judoka  Tohar Bubtul, but he had decided to forfeit.

“We made the right decision”

Two years later, the same story is repeated for the Algerian judoka. In the first round, Fethi Nourine inherited the Sudanese Mohamed Abdalrasol in a fight scheduled for Monday, July 26. In the 2nd round of the Tokyo Olympics, and in case of qualification, the Algerian should be opposed to the same Israeli judoka.

Amar Ben Yekhlef explained the reasons for this package to Ennahar TV: “We had no luck with the draw. The judoka Fethi Nourine fell in front of an Israeli judoka and this is the reason for his withdrawal from the competition.”

The national coach recalled that Algeria and the Algerians refused the normalization of relations with Israel. “We reject standardization. We made the right decision,” he said.
