In Spain, the Popular Party requests the appearance of Pedro Sanchez in the Lower House of Parliament so that he can explain to deputies the circumstances of his visit to Morocco, made on February 21.

The opposition party is demanding clarification from the Prime Minister on the organization of his trip to Rabat and the reasons why the visit was only announced 24 hours before, Iberian media report. The leading political force in the Lower House and the Senate also wants to know the files examined by Pedro Sanchez, in the Moroccan capital, with King Mohammed VI and the head of the executive, Aziz Akhannouch.

This request to appear is in line with the proposal tabled at the end of January by the group of PP deputies relating to the control by Parliament of the foreign policy of the Spanish government. Through this legislative initiative, the PP hopes to put an end to “unilateral decisions which contrast with the historical positions adopted by Spain” on certain international issues. A reference to Pedro Sanchez’s support for the Moroccan autonomy plan in Western Sahara.

The PP had requested the appearance of Pedro Sanchez, a week after his talks with King Mohammed VI, on April 7, 2022, in Rabat.
