This new 25,000 m2 corrugated cardboard packaging production site requires an investment of 35 million euros.

This week, Smurfit Kappa launched the construction of its first factory in Morocco. The Irish paper-based packaging manufacturer, which operates 350 production sites worldwide and is present in 36 countries, has until now only had a sales department in the country.

Located in Rabat, this 25,000 m 2 factory will produce corrugated cardboard packaging for the industrial, agricultural, consumer goods, automotive, pharmaceutical, and ceramic sectors for local clients and multinationals based in Morocco.

“In a market where demand for corrugated packaging currently exceeds supply, the new plant will play an important and strategic role,” the packaging producer said in a statement. According to Edwin Goffard, Director of Corrugated Operations and Converting for Smurfit Kappa Europe, “Customers want to know that their products are being transported and displayed in the most efficient and sustainable way possible.”

Ignacio Sevillano, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, adds: “The new factory will also integrate an experience center, our 30th in the world, which will foster collaboration with our customers and bring creative ideas and reflections.”

This first Moroccan corrugated packaging plant of Smurfit Kappa should start at the beginning of 2023.
