Morocco was elected to the Executive Council of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the period 2022-2025, as a representative of the group of Eastern Mediterranean States (EMR), during the work of the 75th session of the World Health Assembly, which are being held in Geneva from May 22 to 28, 2022, said Friday a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, according to Apanews.

Candidate for one of the two vacant seats in the MRE region, Morocco was able to garner the support of the Member States of the Organization thanks to the mobilization of the entire diplomatic apparatus of the Kingdom, in close coordination with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, underlines the same source.

Morocco will use its mandate to contribute to the achievement of the “triple billion” objective, on which the WHO’s five-year strategic plan is based, namely to protect one billion people in the face of emergencies, to achieve universal health coverage for one billion people and ensure better health and well-being for one billion people by 2023, the ministry said.
