Reduction in the Trade Deficit at the End of June 2023

Tunisia-Tribune (trade deficit)-  Following the 10% increase in exports and the 0.6% drop in imports, the trade deficit narrowed to a level of -8686.9 MD against -11775, 5 MD during the first half of 2022. It should be noted that the trade balance deficit excluding energy is reduced to -3795.1 MD and that the energy balance deficit stands at -4891.8 MD (56% of the total deficit) against -4224.6 MD during the first half of 2022.

According to the INS, the deficit in the trade balance is mainly due to the deficit recorded with certain countries, such as China, Russia, Algeria, Turkey, Ukraine, Egypt and Greece.

Exports reached the level of 31,271 MD against 28,432.4 MD during the first half of 2022. As for imports, they reached 39,957.9 MD against 40,207.9 MD during the first half of 2022 .

The coverage rate thus gained 7.6 points compared to the same period of 2022 to stand at 78.3%.

Tunisian exports to the European Union (71% of total exports) increased by 14.2%. This development is explained, according to the INS, by the increase in Tunisian exports to several European partners, such as France (+11.6%), Italy (+14.1%), Germany (+13 ,9%), Spain (+29.4%), Greece (+25.1%) and the Netherlands (54.8%).​​​​​​​

To Arab countries, exports increased with Algeria (+46.7%) and with Libya +4.3%. On the other hand, they fell by (-34.7%) with Egypt and by (-9.2%) with Morocco.
