According to the report entitled โIndustrialization Index in Africaโ, produced by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Tunisia ranks 4th in Africa, behind South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt.
Please note that the โAfrican Industrialization Indexโ report studies the industrial situation of 52 of the 54 countries on the African continent during the period 2010-2019. Most African countries are progressing, albeit slowly, in their industrial development; other countries have even acquired sophisticated production capabilities.
Now about the rating itself, the index highlights that the rating ranging from 0 (bad) to 1 (good) is assigned to each of the countries evaluated. Thus, with a score of 0.7714, Tunisia occupies 4th continental rank in terms of industrial development, ahead of Egypt (3rd, with a score of 0.7877), Morocco (2nd, 0 .8327), and South Africa (in first position with a score of 0.8404).
The three criteria that served as a basis for the ADB to establish the ranking are: โPerformanceโ (industrial production, exports, etc.), โDirect determinantsโ (capital, labor, etc.), and โIndirect determinantsโ ( business environment, macroeconomic stability, solidity of institutions, infrastructure, etc.).
