The CEO of the Export Promotion Center (Cepex), Mourad Ben Hassine, indicated that his institution is collaborating with the Ministry of Commerce to implement a national export strategy focused on several new markets, including Asian and Latin American.
In response to a question on Tunisia’s economic diplomacy, Ben Hassine added that a plan has been put in place to identify Tunisia’s strategic orientations in terms of market access.
In an interview with the Tap agency, the official noted that the technical commissions will meet continuously to resolve problems hindering the export of agricultural products to China.
He mentioned many procedures and conditions that are put in place for exporters in the Chinese market, but in return, many platforms and communication points have been put in place to register the products that will access this market.
During a press conference yesterday evening regarding the recent state visit of the President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed to China, the Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wan Li, mentioned the significant trade deficit between Tunisia and China, calling on Tunisian producers and exporters to promote their products in its immense country. “Tunisia has submitted requests to export certain types of agricultural products to China, and the Chinese side has requested complete documentation from the Tunisian side and is waiting for the files to be finalized,” he said, thus returning the request. responsibility for Tunisia’s trade deficit with China lies with the Tunisians and their lack of responsiveness and dynamism.
Ben Hassine recalled that Cepex organized, last year, in Tunisia, an event on the South Korean market that saw high-level Korean participation. This resulted in the conclusion of partnership contracts in several sectors, including the automotive components industry.
The official said that the Expo Osaka 2025 event, to be held in Japan, will provide an opportunity to consolidate trade relations with Tokyo and explore the Japanese market and those of other East Asian countries, which represent the largest economies in the world.
Ben Hassine estimated that the Tunisia Export team, formed in 2023, and which includes representatives of professional structures, is working to establish a unified vision of Tunisian products and to identify markets on a scientific basis.
The Tunisia Export team managed to establish a list of 40 Tunisian markets and 40 products and made this data available to companies to help them choose markets simply and efficiently.
