Portuguese Foreign Minister visiting Algiers

Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva is expected in Algiers on Wednesday for a working visit aimed at “deepening cooperation between the two countries,” said a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Through its press release, the ministry specifies that this visit is part of “the pursuit and deepening of the ties of friendship and cooperation that exist between Algeria and Portugal, in accordance with the provisions and the ‘spirit of the Treaty of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation, signed in Algiers on January 8, 2005 ”.

The visit will be an opportunity for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sabri Boukadoum, “to consider with his Portuguese counterpart the ways and means of strengthening bilateral political dialogue and broadening the bases of economic and trade cooperation between the two country, ”adds the ministry document.

“Current regional and international issues, in particular the question of Western Sahara, the Libyan crisis, the situation in Mali and in the Sahel region and Mediterranean issues, will also be on the agenda of this meeting”, he adds again.

In addition to an interview with his counterpart Sabri Boukadoum, the Portuguese visitor will also be received in audience by the Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelaziz Djerad, the same source notes.
