Palestinian Al Jazeera journalist Shirine Abu Aqleh killed by Israeli soldiers

Al Jazeera correspondent Shirine Abu Aqleh was killed Wednesday morning by Israeli gunfire while covering clashes in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

The official Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported from the Health Ministry that journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, 51, died of her wound after being shot in the head.

Another journalist, Ali Samoudi, was also shot in the back, the same source said, adding that his condition is stable.

The correspondent in question said that his colleague, who was covering the Israeli army’s assault on the Jenin camp, should report the facts live at 7am on the Aljazeera channel.

Ali Samoudi also reported that Israeli forces directly targeted journalists and media crews at the scene, pointing out that they were wearing jackets marked “press”.

Born in 1971 in Jerusalem, Shireen Nasri Abu Aqleh first studied architecture at the University of Science and Technology in Jordan, before changing careers and specializing in written journalism. The Palestinian had obtained a license at the University of Yarmouk in Jordan.

The journalist then returned to Palestine, to work on several sites such as UNRWA, the “Voice of Palestine” radio and the Amman satellite channel. Then, the Moftah Foundation, Radio Monte Carlo.

In 1997, Abu Aqleh began her career with Al Jazeera, since then she has been one of the most famous media faces.
