Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita will start a visit to Ramallah on Tuesday, where he will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and he will continue to Amman, where he will meet Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Wednesday.

Morocco’s FM will also visit the Aqsa Mosque.

Bourita told Asharq Al-Awsat that his visit to Palestine comes at the instruction of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, who is also chairman of al-Quds Committee, pointing out that his upcoming visit to Ramallah is the implementation of the content of the phone call conducted by King Mohammed VI with Abu Mazen on December 5.

The phone call was made following the news of a possible US declaration to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel and to move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv.

Bourita said in a statement following the phone call that King Mohammed VI and President Abbas agreed to continue direct contact and permanent consultation on this issue and to establish close coordination between the two governments to work together to identify the steps and initiatives that shall be taken in light of the critical circumstances faced by the Palestinian cause.

“Morocco, its King, government and people, consider the Palestinian cause a national issue,” the FM said.

The Moroccan official reiterated that his country is defending the rights of the Palestinian people according to the Arab peace initiative, international legitimacy, and the two-state solution.

The agenda of Bourita’s visit to Palestine on Tuesday includes traveling to Jerusalem to visit the Aqsa Mosque before returning to Ramallah to carry out political consultations with his Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Maliki.

He will also meet President Abbas and be the latter’s guest on an official dinner banquet.

The FM will arrive in Amman on Wednesday, where he will meet Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman al-Safadi, then he will meet King Abdullah II and conclude his visit with an official dinner banquet, which will be hosted by Safadi, to honor his Moroccan counterpart and his delegation.
