Algerian dates are once again at the heart of debates within national public opinion concerning their origin and quality. A rumor has been circulating in recent days on social networks concerning the health safety standards of these dates which are not respected.

The Moroccan Association for the Protection of Consumer Rights denied the veracity of the information published on this subject, indicating that dates entering Moroccan territory are healthy and do not contain any unhealthy substances, as they pass through customs services and are subject to control by the National Food Safety Office before obtaining a sales license.

Professionals have indicated that Algerian dates are constantly present on Moroccan markets, and not only during the month of Ramadan, stressing that the craze for these dates during this period gives them this particular character.

The professionals interviewed added that the increase in demand for Algerian dates is due to their availability and their lower prices than Moroccan or Emirati dates. Professionals also emphasize that the mass presence of Algerian dates is due to the weakness of national production in recent years, mainly due to the drought that affected our country.
