While maneuvers have begun in preparation for the presidential election scheduled for the end of the year, the Tunisian head of state continues to use his full powers.

The Tunisian ministers of Transport and Culture were dismissed: the announcement came at the end of the day on March 12, without specifying the reasons for these evictions.

Never official explanations

The Tunisian president dismissed Rabie Majidi and Hayet Guettat Guermazi, as he had thanked, on August 1, 2023, Prime Minister Najla Bouden to replace her with a former senior executive of the Central Bank, Ahmed Hachani, whom he asked to “ overcome colossal challenges” facing the country.

Less recently, we remember that the Minister of the Interior Taoufik Charfeddine, although known to be close to the president, was dismissed in January 2021 against a backdrop of tensions between Kaïs Saïed and the head of government at the time, Hichem Mechichi. In October 2023, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Saïed, lost his post without further explanation.

Democratically elected in October 2019, Kaïs Saïed assumed full powers on July 25, 2021, and has since governed by presidential decrees, creating strong political tensions in the country against the backdrop of a socio-economic crisis that the government is struggling to remedy, despite frequent ministerial changes. In January 2024, the president carried out a mini-ministerial reshuffle by appointing incumbents to vacant positions, sometimes for several months, in the Economy, Industry, and Employment.
