According to a press release published by the Royal Moroccan Sports Shooting Federation (FRMTS).

The Royal Moroccan Sports Shooting Federation (FRMTS) announced on Saturday the cancellation of the World Cup, scheduled for next February in the capital, Rabat, in order to avoid the rapid spread of the “Omicron” variant.

“This decision comes in compliance with the measures taken by the Moroccan government to combat the spread of the Omicron variant,” FRMTS said in a statement.

The cancellation of the World Cup also comes “due to the impossibility of organizing this international event given the decision to suspend flights, which made the postponement of the World Cup obvious”, explains the FRMTS .

The decision to suspend the flights came into effect on November 29 and was extended by one month until January 31.

The statement said the cancellation decision “has been welcomed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) given the need to take into consideration changes in global health conditions imposed by the pandemic that are outside the scope of the will of the Moroccan Royal Sports Shooting Federation”.

“Another date will be agreed later on to organize the Sport Shooting World Cup under better conditions, especially since this event coincides with the African Shooting Championship,” added the same source.

The FRMTS stressed that its deputy president is in contact with the ISSF to agree on a date to hold the World Cup in better conditions, which will probably be the end of May or the beginning of June.

Until this Saturday, the assessment of contamination due to Covid-19 in Morocco reports 1,043,225 confirmed cases, including 14,963 deaths, and 972,291 recoveries.

In addition, the number of people who benefited from the vaccination campaign, which began on January 28, 2021, reached 24,612,000, out of a population of approximately 36 million, the largest vaccination campaign in the Arab world and Africa.
