Italy to Issue Nearly 70,000 Work Permits for Foreigners, Including Algerians

The year 2022 looks promising for employment in Italy. Indeed, the Italian government has announced the issuance of nearly 70,000 work permits for foreign nationals outside the European Union (EU). Among the beneficiaries of these permits are Algerian nationals.  

Italy, like many countries in Europe, is facing a labor shortage. A shortage caused mainly by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has impacted several sectors, including agriculture, tourism, and transport. With the aim of remedying this situation, the Italian government has decided to call on foreign labor, announcing the granting of nearly 70,000 work permits to nationals residing outside the EU, for the year 2022.

Italy to grant 69,700 work permits for foreigners in 2022

Indeed, the Italian Ministry of the Interior announced, in a press release, the maximum number of work permits that will be issued during the year 2022 to foreign workers, seasonal and non-seasonal, as well as to self-employed workers outside the European Union. The maximum quota retained by the Italian government is fixed at 69,700 permits, reports the specialized site SchengenVisaInfo.

Adopted on December 21, 2021, the work permit quota for foreigners has just been published in the Official Journal. Of the 69,700 work permits for non-EU nationals, the Italian ministry specifies that a quota of 27,700 work permits is reserved for non-seasonal and self-employed subordinate work as well as conversions.

Here are the jobs that concern Algerian nationals

Of this quota, 20,000 permits are reserved for non-seasonal subordinate work in the freight transport, construction, and hospitality sectors. For citizens of around thirty countries, including Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. Applications for these types of work permits can be submitted from January 27, 2022, at 9 a.m., specified by the Italian Interior Ministry.

The Italian government has also reserved a quota of 42,000 work permits for subordinate trades in the agriculture and tourism sectors for foreign workers outside the European Union, including Algerians, Tunisians, and Moroccans. Applications for this type of work will be open from February 1, 2022 at 9 a.m.
