New arms order for the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) from the American market. “The State Department has made a decision approving a possible foreign military sale to the Moroccan government of Javelin missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $260 million (2.61 billion dirhams, editor’s note),” said Tuesday, March 19 the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in a press release.

“Morocco has requested the purchase of six hundred and twelve (612) Javelin FGM-148F missiles (including twelve (12) flying missiles) and two hundred (200) Javelin Light Command Launch Units (LWCLU),” underlines the DSCA.

This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States, by helping to improve the security of a major non-NATO ally (since June 2004, editor’s note) which continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in North Africa, specifies the DSCA

And added that “the proposed sale will improve Morocco’s long-term defense capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity and to meet its national defense needs. Morocco will have no difficulty integrating this equipment into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the fundamental military balance of the region.” This possible sale will be examined by the United States Congress.

The FGM-148 Javelin is an American portable anti-tank missile launcher. Its main customers are Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and France. The weapon is currently proving itself in the war in Ukraine. The unit costs around $78,000 (Dh784,017.00).

As a reminder, in April 2023, Morocco ordered 18 HIMARS high mobility artillery systems and associated equipment from the United States for an estimated cost of $524.2 million.
