The teaching of English in colleges in Morocco will be gradually generalized from the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

The announcement was made by the Minister of National Education , Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa , in a circular addressed to the various officials of his department, to the directors of college education establishments and to language teachers . For the 2023-2024 school year , the English language will be instilled in students with a coverage rate of 10% for the first year of college education and 50% for the second year . It will then be extended to reach a coverage rate of 50% for the first year of college education and 100% for the second year from the 2024-2025 school year . From the following school year, the teaching of English in colleges will be generalized at all levels.
Thus, students will benefit from two hours of English per week for each level of the college , with an average of 24 hours per week for each teacher (at the rate of 12 classes per teacher). To make this project a success, a central steering and monitoring committee, chaired by the secretary general of the ministry and made up of the heads of the central departments concerned, will be set up. It will be accompanied by regional commissions which will be under the direct supervision of the directors of the Regional Education and Training Academies (AREF) . The program of generalization of the teaching of English will be elaborated with the participation of theAREF , educational actors and international partners of the ministry, with an educational kit and a training and support system for teachers. Digital resources will also be made available to students and teachers , in addition to the libraries that will have to be installed in educational establishments for this purpose.
