Morocco Finishes 2ND in the U20 Arab Athletics Championships With 20 Medals

Morocco finished in second place at the Arab U20 athletics championships, held from May 23 to 27 at the Radès athletics stadium in Tunis, with a total of 20 medals, including 6 gold and 8 silver.

First place went to Egypt with a total of 32 medals (13 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze), while Morocco edged out host country Tunisia (6 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze) and Algeria (5 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze. Bahrain for its part finished in 5th place with 12 medals (5 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze).

Moroccan athletes had won two new medals on Friday, during the closing day, thanks to Sana Hasnaoui in the 1,500m event who achieved a time of 4 min 23 s 67 ahead of the Algerian Roukaya Mouissi (4 min 25 s 27) and by the women’s 4x400m relay team which won ahead of Algeria in 3 min 52 s 48.

Morocco also won three bronze medals on the final day, which were won by Fatma Zahra Al chafayek in the 400m hurdles (1 min 04 s 22), Fatma Aefir in the 1,500m event ( 4 min 26 s 66) and Mohamed Alattieti in the 5,000m (14 min 22 s 47).

As a reminder, 28 Moroccan athletes, including 14 women, traveled to Tunis to take part in the U20 Arab Athletics Championships, in which some 350 athletes from 13 countries took part.

At the end of this tournament, Morocco secured 6 places at the Junior Worlds scheduled in Cali, Colombia, from August 1st to 6th.

Gold medals: Sanae Hasnaoui (800m and 1,500m), Mohamed Alateati (3,000m), Fatima Aefir (3,000m) and the women’s 4x400m relay.

Silver: Assia Alhafyan (high jump), Lamiae El Maemouni (800m), Aya El Aqlewi (long jump), Fatima Zahra Bardeha (3,000m), Salma Alhileli (400m), Lamiae El Maemouni (800m), Jameleddine Hadili ( long jump) and Khadija Ansari (3,000m steeplechase).

For the monk, they were won by: Fatima Zahra AlChafayek (400m hurdles), Fatma Aefir (1,500m), Asia El Hafian (high jump), Mohamed Al Alateati (5,000m), Salma Alhileli (100m) and Lobna Lahdar (3,000m steeplechase).
