The Ariane district in Nice, in the south of France, experienced an unusual movement this Saturday, May 28, 2022: hundreds of Moroccans established in this region moved there to establish and/or renew their consular documents.

With the improvement of the health situation and the resumption of air traffic to Morocco, Moroccans in France can now travel. To do this, consular documents are required, including passports and identity cards.

After more than two years of closure, many Moroccan travelers have found themselves with expired passports and national cards. The Moroccan consular representations in France are trying to get closer to the community to facilitate the procedures for issuing these documents, which are necessary to return to Morocco.

This Saturday, May 28, hundreds of Moroccans from France lined up in front of the center set up for this purpose in Nice. The Moroccan consulate in Marseille has organized its annual office in this region.

The Moroccan community established in France does not have a consulate in Nice. This is why the nearest Moroccan Consulate, namely that of Marseille, moves once a year to Nice to meet the needs of the community.

Moroccans in Nice: “It’s very badly organized. Everyone is hustling”

According to the local newspaper Nice Matin, some of these people, among Franco-Moroccans and Moroccans, had been queuing since seven in the morning. Faced with the large crowd, anarchy and jostling begin to take over.

A Moroccan woman who came to collect her identity card gave her report; “It’s very poorly organized. Everyone is scrambling. They don’t even let people in.” According to her, the reception is already saturated.

In a video posted on Twitter, we see hundreds of people in front of the door and around the AnimaNice Django-Reinhardt center. In order to prevent any anarchy, the French police had to intervene to install barriers and organize the crowd, reports Nice Matin.
