Morocco: 17.5 Million People Have at Least One Bank Account (BAM)

Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) Statistics on Bank Accounts for the Year 2021 Reveal That 17.5 Million People Have at Least One Bank Account.

These are legal persons -PM- (less than 4% of the total, ie 644,338) and natural persons -PP- (more than 96%), which specifies BAM.

Among natural persons, 37.4% are women, against 62.6% men, while the age group โ€œ60 years and overโ€ ranks first (3.4 million people), followed by โ€œ31 to 35 years oldโ€ and โ€œ36 to 40 years oldโ€ (each 1.9 million), said the same source, adding that 49.4% of identified PPs have only one open account, 27.8% two accounts and 12 .4% three accounts.

In addition, people who opened an account for the first time reached 578,617 PP in 2021, of which 45% were women. By age group, 24% of these people are between 21 and 25 years old and 15% are between 19 and 20 years old.

By place of residence, 94% of people who opened an account for the first time are Moroccans residing in Morocco and 4% of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE).
