Algeria 3RD, France 4TH, and Tunisia 7TH in the Medal Standings at the Mediterranean Games in Oran 2022, June 30

France won its first five gold medals at the Mediterranean Games in Oran 2022 and moved up to the fourth place. Turkey is still in the lead.

The sport-boules (petanque) allowed France to win their first gold medal thanks to Yohan Cousin and Lucas Desport, who won the title in doubles, after a 13-5 victory against Moroccans Lhoussain Akbas and Mohamed Bajioui finally. Mélanie Vieu then won the gold medal in judo at -48 kg, then Pauline Lecarpentier followed suit by winning in wrestling (68 kg).

In wrestling, Tunisia won 2 medals for women: silver with Siwar Bouseta who lost in the 57 kg final against the Turkish Bediha Gun, and bronze with Marwa Amri (62 kg), who is imposed against the French Ameline Douarre.

On the Algerian side, Lamia Aissioui won the silver medal in sport-boules (raffa), in singles, after reaching the final. In the gold medal match, she lost to Turkey’s Bahar Cil, who solidified her National Olympic Committee (NOC) position at the top of the medal standings.

This evening, France meets Algeria in football in a decisive match for the accession to the semi-finals of the men’s tournament.
