Since last September, the freezing of sanitary import exemptions (DSI) for milk powder has raised concerns, mainly on the side of operators in the dairy industry. The latter again challenged the competent authorities. The following lines contain all of the claims made.

The end of the year promises to be relatively more difficult than expected! Under the effect of the fall of the dinar and an economic crisis intensified by the viral pandemic, households are struggling to make ends meet. Between shortages and rising prices of basic necessities, they no longer know where to turn. And, as misfortune never comes alone, it is milk which may soon be lacking in Algeria.

In any case, this is the alert given on Thursday by the Confederation of Algerian Industrialists and Producers (CIPA). The latter did not hesitate to describe the freezing of import sanitary exemptions (DSI), essential for the supply of powdered milk, as a real threat to the Algerian market. The president of the aforementioned organization has clearly expressed his concern.

Abdelwahab Ziani sounded the alarm bells. He then stressed the absolute need to lift this suspension measure. “If the government does not lift the freeze on milk powder ISDs, the dairies in Algeria will be forced to cease their activity”. This was further clarified by the first person in charge of the CIPA. In the same section, he launched an appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries.

The freeze on powdered milk imports in Algeria: the continuing concern of operators

In Algeria, the DSI gel of milk powder arouses, above all, the incomprehension of a large part of the manufacturers in this sector. In addition to the producers. In recent months, they have not ceased to alert government officials to the consequences that this suspension can engender. Or the Prime Minister.

They once again drew their attention via a handwritten letter, this Saturday, December 18, 2021. They first highlighted the problem they are currently facing: the drastic drop in stock levels of this dairy raw material. This is what emerges from the letter in question, taken up by the general French-speaking daily. El Watan.

Worried at the idea of being inactive, they then urged the high authorities to give way to the importation of powdered milk in Algeria, as soon as possible. For his part, the president of CIPA called on the Ministry of Agriculture to listen attentively to the requests of producers in order to achieve a coherent strategy conducive to the development of the sector.
