The diplomatic relationship between Tunisia and Syria will be strengthened. This is what transpires during the meeting between the Tunisian Head of State, Kaïs Saïed, and his Syrian counterpart, Bashar El Assad, on Friday May 19, 2023, on the occasion of their participation in the Summit of the Arab League  in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The press release from the presidency describes this meeting as “historic, reflecting the fraternal relations between Tunisia and Syria. Contrary to what some claimed, at one time they were friends of Syria; while contributing to the suffering of the Syrian people for many years”.

In addition, the President of the Republic of Tunisia welcomes the return of this country to the Arab League . While expressing the hope that the Syrian people will regain their stability, far from any outside interference…

The two Heads of State therefore discussed the different levels of cooperation between the two countries and the need to strengthen them in several areas.

One thing is certain: Syria’s diplomatic return speaks volumes. Knowing that the foreign ministers of the Arab League met in Cairo a few days ago, meeting during which they decided to reintegrate Syria into the pan-Arab organization.
