In a series of major operations, Algerian national security forces have dealt a severe blow to several drug trafficking and smuggling networks, seizing massive quantities of illicit substances and arresting dozens of suspects. This weekend, coordinated interventions in several wilayas, notably in El M’Ghair, Naama, Algiers, and Batna, led to astonishing results, illustrating the scale and sophistication of these criminal networks.

A Record Seizure: Stunning Figures

The figures speak for themselves: 667,365 capsules of psychotropic substances, 364 kg of cannabis, 1.5 kg of cocaine, and 1.2 kg of heroin were intercepted. A total of 34 individuals were arrested during these operations, including eight foreign nationals, highlighting the transnational nature of these criminal networks. Notable seizures also included 70,000 packets of foreign cigarettes, 2,608 smart cell phones, and 10 vehicles. A particularly striking discovery was made by the El M’ghaier University police, who discovered a shipment of psychotropic substances cleverly hidden in a fuel tank.

These operations come in the wake of a series of strikes carried out by the police of Algiers and Tamanrasset against similar networks, which led to the confiscation of nearly one and a half million capsules of psychotropic substances. Batna: A notable quantity of cocaine was confiscated.
