Africa, although poor, remains the reservoir of the industrialized countries. Oil is, without a doubt, one of the main materials that the giants of world industry come to draw from Africa. Algeria, whose economy is mainly based on hydrocarbons, is one of the African countries for which oil represents an essential value.

But Algeria is far from being the only African oil producer, and it even happens that it does not appear in the top 3 of African countries with the largest production of black gold. In North Africa alone, Algeria faces stiff competition from Egypt and Libya.

Ranking of oil producing countries in Africa

Crude oil is an important source of revenue for several African countries, and this is the case for Algeria.

In a ranking published two days ago, the specialized site Business Insider announced the 10 largest crude oil producers in Africa in the year 2021. Although Algeria is included, it is not part of the top 3.

Indeed, Algeria occupies fourth place in this ranking. The average production in 2021 of the largest country in Africa in terms of the area was only 959,000 per day.

At the head of this same ranking, we find Nigeria, which produces on average more than 1.27 million barrels per day. In the second position, we can only note the strong comeback of Libya, which was able to produce in 2021, at a rate exceeding 1.21 million barrels per day.

In the third position, we find Angola whose average production was 1.11 million barrels per day. Egypt for its part occupies the 5th position after Algeria, with an average production of 559,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
