The Director-General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Alon Ushpiz began his visit after a telephone interview between the foreign ministers of the two countries, according to a statement from Tel Aviv

The Director-General of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, Alon Ushpiz, on Tuesday began a visit to Morocco to discuss ways to strengthen relations between the two countries.

This is what emerges from a tweet posted on the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s affiliate page ‘Israel in Arabic’.

“The Director-General of Israel’s Foreign Ministry Alon Ushpiz today on behalf of Foreign Minister Yair Lapid began an official visit to Morocco,” it wrote.

According to the post, this visit comes “at the end of a telephone conversation between Minister Lapid and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita”, without giving additional details on this subject.

“Ushpiz will meet with his Moroccan counterpart Fouad Yazough and senior officials from the Moroccan foreign ministry to discuss ways to strengthen relations,” the official page said.

However, this source did not specify the duration of the visit, and no official statement was issued by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry until 14:30 GMT.

On December 10, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations between them, after their split in 2000.

Morocco thus became the fourth Arab country to proceed with normalization with Israel in 2020, after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan.
