During the meeting in the Algerian capital on Sunday, Ameri and Guitouni explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations in the energy field.

During the meeting, the Iranian envoy lauded the growing trend of bilateral relations in different fields such as constructive collaboration in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Ameri voiced Iran’s readiness to expand oil cooperation with Algeria, specially in oil sector and the implementation of joint investment projects.

Meanwhile, the Algerian energy minister, for his part, said that his respective country also underlines the need for reducing dependence on oil and has plans for that.

“We are aware of Iranian technical engineering firms’ capabilities and are interested to joint invest with them,” he said.

In a relevant development in September 2015, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in a meeting in Algiers underlined both countries’ enthusiasm for the further development of ties in all fields.

During the meeting on Wednesday, Bouteflika underlined the necessity for the further expansion of relations with Tehran.

He called terrorism and extremism as common threats posing all countries, and urged more coordination among the regional states to counter these problems.

Zarif, for his part, hailed Algeria’s stance towards regional developments, and underlined the African country’s constructive role in the regional developments, including the crisis in Yemen and Syria.

He expressed the hope that the joint high commission of the two countries would prepare the ground for expansion of ties in all fields, including oil, gas, finance, banking and tourism.
