Hadjar receives Algerian academics residing in Canada

ALGIERS- Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Tahar Hadjar on Monday in Algiers received Algerian academics and researchers residing in Canada, on the occasion of the first scientific and cultural days of the Algerian community in Canada.

During the meeting which took place in the ministry headquarters, Hadjar mentioned the “numerous achievements” made by the Algerian university, noting that the “success of the academics and researchers (in Canada) is also that of the Algerian university, where they had their basic training.”

The minister said that the Algerian university had launched a series of reforms in the past years, which are being assessing for nacessary  adjustments.

He also urged the members of the Algerian diaspora to contribute to this assessment process and support, by their ideas and suggestions, Algeria effort to set up a forward policy in the Higher Education sector.

In this respect, a Monitoring Committee, composed of two members of the Algerian community in Canada and two officials from the Higher Education Ministry has been installed by Hadjar.

It is intended to follow all recommendations aiming at establishing cooperation links between the Algerian university researchers and the Algerian academics abroad.

During this meeting, three agreements were signed between Ryerson University (Toronto) in Canada and three Algerian universities, namely Oran I,  Constantine II and Blida III.

Algerian Mohamed Lachemihe who is the President, Vice Chancellor of Ryerson University, announced following the signing ceremony that his establishment would annually unlock three grants for students from the three Algerian universities that signed the agreements.

He also announced that the university awarded, exceptionally this year, three more scholarships for students from the University of Bejaia.
