French Visas to Algerians: A Sharp Drop Recorded

In 2020, the number of visas issued by France fell sharply compared to 2019. Indeed, a total of 712,317 visas were granted to Algerians in 2020 by France, against a number of 3,534,999 issued. in 2019, an estimated drop of 79.8%.

We therefore note a significant drop recorded in the number of French visas granted to Algerians in 2020, compared to the figures recorded in 2019.

To this end, the French Interior Ministry explained that this decrease is mainly due to the closure of borders due to the global Coronavirus pandemic. Adding that this has had a big impact on immigration over the past year.

“This decrease is directly attributable to the health crisis. In addition, international travel has been affected by the lack of air links and the closure of many borders. As a result, China, traditionally the first country of origin for visa holders, has moved to fourth place, behind Morocco, Russia, and Algeria,” the French Interior Ministry said through a press release.

The slightly lower number of student residence permit applications

Moreover, and according to the same source, the rate of residence permit applications for students has been relatively under control. Indeed, there was a slight decrease of 20% over the past year, compared to the figures for 2019.

The same source said that the implementation of a new tool has helped and facilitated the submission of residence permit applications to students without delay. Knowing that this made the processing of these requests faster.

It is useful to specify that Algeria is the third country whose citizens have benefited the most from Schengen visas, with a figure of 73,276 visas issued during the year 2020, after Morocco and Russia, said the same source.
