First section of drinking water demineralization plant inaugurated in In-Salah

IN-SALAH (Tamanrasset)- A first section of the drinking water demineralization plant, in the locality of In-Salah, of a capacity of 12500 m3 per day was inaugurated Sunday by Minister of Water Resources and Environment Abdelkader Ouali.

Located 70km north of In-Salah, this plant is the 6th section of the 750km In-Salah-to-Tamanrasset water transfer project which is expected to provide 100000 m3 of demineralized water per day by 2030.

Another 12,500 m3 per day capacity section, destined for the population of Tamanrasset, will be put into operation during the first week of next January and it is expected to bring the distributed capacity to 25,000 m3 per day.

Visiting the site, Ouali highlighted the importance of this facility, part of the In-Salah-Tamanrasset water transfer megaprojet included in the programme of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The minister also called for opening new horizons for the social and economic development in the South.

He urged the plant officials to preserve this plant by ensuring good maintenance and management for the continuity of such a vital project.

The processed waters of the plant, which total cost amounts to DZD7 billion, will be provided to the populations of the sub-province of In-Salah and the province of Tamanrasset.

The project works have been entrusted to public company Cosider-canalisations over a period of 18 months and their progress reached 70% rate.
