ALGIERS- A drug trafficker was killed and six others were arrested and over 17 quintals (qls) of cannabis resin were seized by the Border Guards and combined detachments of the People’s National Army in the south and west of the country on Saturday, the Ministry of National Defence said in a statement on Sunday.
“As part of operations to strengthen border security and fight against smuggling and organized crime, units of the Border Guards killed a drug trafficker and arrested two others north of Tindouf (3rd Military Region) and seized five quintals of cannabis resin, an all-terrain vehicle and a motorbike,” said the statement.
In separate operations carried out in Tlemcen, Naama and Ain Temouchent (2nd Military Region), “combined detachments of the People’s National Army arrested four drug traffickers and seized 12 qls and 19 kg of cannabis resin,” added the Ministry’s statement.
Units of the National Gendarmerie and the Border Guards intercepted “forty illegal immigrants from different nationalities in Tlemcen, Relizane, Mostaganem and El Bayadh (2 Military Region) and In Salah (6th Military Region),” concluded the statement.
