Dakhla: Morocco Wins the African Pastry Cup

Morocco won, on Saturday in Dakhla, the fifth African Pastry Cup, organized as part of the official Africa TOC Africa chefs tournament. Thus, the Moroccan team won this award after ten hours of competition, followed by Mauritius and Tunisia, which respectively reached the second and third steps of the podium.

The three international winning teams won their tickets to the pastry world cup which will take place next January in Lyon (France), at the Salon de l’hôtellerie et de la restauration (Sirha). The jury also awarded a special prize to the Ghana team for the best team spirit.

This competition is marked by the participation of great African pastry chefs from eight countries, including Egypt, Ghana, Burkina-Faso, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. It brought together the best cooks on the African scale, who distinguished themselves by their work techniques and the enhancement of tastes in the creation and realization of their dishes.

In a statement to M24, MAP’s continuous news television channel, the president of TOC Africa and the Moroccan Federation of Culinary Arts, Kamal Rahal Essoulami, indicated that this competition is an opportunity to highlight the role of chefs and pastry chefs in highlighting the gastronomy of their countries, especially since it allows the enhancement of the culinary arts as a vector of tourist promotion.

Kamal Rahal Essoulami, who is also president of the National Bakery and Pastry Federation, stressed that TOC Africa aims to promote the Moroccan and African chefs, in a spirit of South-South cooperation.

For his part, the president of the jury of the African Pastry Cup, Jean-Jacques Borne praised the remarkable and exceptional quality of work of African pastry chefs, noting that African gastronomy continues to distinguish itself during the greatest culinary competitions.

Initiated by Rahal Event, TOC Africa brings together more than 200 renowned chefs in cooking and pastry. The Pastry World Cup is the benchmark event for pastry art in the world, both unifying the profession and revealing talents and trends.

Culinary demonstrations, testimonials and workshops on the culinary riches of the region are on the program, in addition to the participation of trainees from hotel schools in the region under the Office of Vocational Training and Labor Promotion (OFPPT).

Mauritius won the second edition of the Bocuse d’Or Africa on Friday, followed by Morocco and Tunisia, which reached the second and third steps of the podium respectively.

The first two countries in the ranking are qualified for the Bocuse d’Or finals, which will take place next January in Lyon, at the Salon Sirha.
