WASHINGTON — Sidney Blumenthal was one of Hillary Clinton’s most prolific e-mailers during Benghazi, sending dozens of messages about the political situation in Libya before and after the attacks on the US compound.

But Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta called Blumenthal a crank in a new leaked e-mail that surfaced Thursday.

“Sid is lost in his own web of conspiracies,” Podesta wrote on Jan. 1, 2016 to liberal activist Brent Budowsky. “I pay zero attention to what he says.”

Budowsky had written Podesta that Clinton’s ties with Blumenthal gave him the “creeps.”

“Blumenthal did not have the slightest idea of what he was talking about in his girlie gossip with the secretary of state about this,” fumed Budowsky, a former aide to late Texas Sen. Lloyd Bentsen. “Why she places such great stock over so much time in these exchanges with Blumenthal is mystifying to me — and frankly troublesome.”

“This whole subject, to use vernacular, gives me the creeps. Secretaries of state, presidential candidates and presidents should not be spending their time on this kind of minor league stuff,” added Budowsky.

A former aide in the Bill Clinton White House turned Clinton Foundation employee, Blumenthal emailed Hillary Clinton regularly with memos while she was Secretary of State.

His cozy relationship with Clinton was exposed by the House Benghazi Committee during its probe as Republicans accused Clinton of welcoming questionable information from Blumenthal while Ambassador Chris Stevens didn’t have similar access to Clinton.

Clinton’s campaign on Thursday reiterated its charge that Russia is behind the leaked e-mails from podesta’s account.

“We’re not going to let it throw us off,” said campaign manager Roger Mook.
