Car sales explode in Q1-2021 in Morocco

New car sales stood at 44,163 units for the first three months of 2021, up 37.4% compared to the end of March 2020, according to the Association of Automotive Importers in Morocco (AIVAM). These sales are spread over passenger cars (PCs) which increased by 37.05% to 39,129 units and those of light commercial vehicles LCV (+ 40.14% to 5,034 units), specifies AIVAM.

In retail, the Dacia brand continues to dominate the passenger car segment, with a market share of 29% and sales up 25.1% to 11,349 cars, followed by Renault (5,133 registrations and a share of 13.12% ) and Hyundai (3,140 units and a share of 8.02%).

Similarly, the American dealership Ford improved its sales by 75.71% to 1,172 units, while Citroën and Fiat managed to sell 1,760 and 1,258 cars respectively, up 11.25% and 7.16%.

In the LCV segment, DFSK came out on top with cumulative sales of 1,081 units corresponding to a market share of 21.47%, ahead of Dacia (576 units) and Renault (599 units). On the premium side, Audi increased its sales by 143.55% to 906 units at the end of March 2021, representing a market share of 2.32%, followed by Mercedes (733 vehicles with a share of 1.87%) and BMW (719 units with a share of 1.84%).

In March alone, new car sales rebounded 165.14% to 16,717 registrations, including 14,908 passenger cars and 1,809 LCVs.
