With an estimated fortune of $192.9 billion, French businessman Bernard Arnault has become the world’s largest fortune, dethroning Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and far exceeding Morocco’s GDP.

According to the latest Forbes magazine ranking, the French businessman snatched the top spot following a fall in the fortune of Jeff Bezos, who lost nearly $14 billion in one day on Friday.

With this fortune, Bernard Arnault is richer than Morocco, whose GDP does not exceed 120 billion dollars.

The French Empire is made up of the LVMH, Moët & Chandon, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy groups. It continues to grow, with a sharp increase in turnover in the first half of the current year: $33.9 billion, or 56% more than in the first half of 2020.

Its LVMH group, the most powerful French multinational and the largest luxury group in the world, has experienced strong growth since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a success which can be explained by resistance to the economic consequences of the crisis, the recovery of the luxury market in China, as well as a boom in emerging countries.
