Rabat – Moroccans sure seem to love their cars. After a year of record sales in 2016, the Moroccan automotive market continues upward in 2017, achieving double-digit growth in January with a breakthrough in the luxury segment.

Confirming the promising prospects for 2017, new car market statistics show 13,782 new registrations during January, up by 21.87% compared to the same period a year ago.

The passenger car segment posted a volume of 12,780 units, up by 21.18%, while a total of 1,002 light commercial vehicles were sold (+31.32%).

The Moroccan automotive market was able to maintain its good performance after marking an historic record of 163,110 units sold in the past year, an increase of about 24% compared to 2015, with a predominance of the passenger cars segment (152,324 units), followed by light unit vehicles (10,786 units).

This excellent performance is attributable to several factors, including the development and improvement of promotional and advertising techniques, the reduction of monthly payments, the granting of various advantages such as zero credit interest, unfunded financing and other payment facilities, in addition to organizing the 10th edition of the Auto Expo held May 12 to 22, which was marked by exposure of around 300 cars models.

The automobile industry is considered one of the most promising and dynamic sectors in Morocco, greatly increasing Moroccan exports through the help of its human, material and technical assets and potentials. The sector benefited from the implantation of various global groups, including the leading French manufacturer Renault.
