Almost 100,000 arrested for drug dealing in Morocco this year

The Moroccan authorities arrested more than 538,000 people in 2017, Arabs48.com has reported. Of these, almost 100,000 were arrested for drug dealing, an increase of 4 per cent over last year.

An official report revealed that 38,358 women and 22,236 minors were among those detained. The total number of arrests is 4.5 per cent up on 2016.

The General Directorate of National Security said that violent crime accounted for just under 10 per cent of all registered crimes in Morocco this year. Increases in murder, sex crimes and violent burglary stood at 18 per cent, 3 per cent and 4 per cent respectively, compared to last year’s figures.
