At a news conference in Algiers, to mark the National Day of Algerian Diplomacy (8 October 1962), Rekhila said “Algeria’s membership to the UN from 8 October 1962 gave a special characteristic to international diplomacy.”
Since the war of national liberation (1954-1962), Algerian diplomacy has been distinguished by its own values and principles, which are in tune with the very foundations of the UN Charter, especially in the preservation of international peace and security and the support to just causes,” in addition to the recognition of “great world political leaders,” the historian said.
Algerian diplomacy draws inspiration from Algeria’s historical heritage, and it is shown in “the support of peoples’ rights to self-determination.”
“The revolutionary heritage of Algerian diplomacy earned it a special place in international fora from 1962 and in most international issues.”
