Algerian Students Ripped Off: Heavy Sentences Handed Down

The epilogue of the trial of the scam suffered by Algerian students who wanted to pursue their higher education abroad, particularly in Ukraine and Turkey. The verdict was rendered this Thursday, June 16 by the court of Dar El Beida in Algiers.

The main defendant, Oussama Rezagui,  manager of the Futur Gate agency, received a heavy sentence: 7 years in prison with a fine of 7 million dinars.

Two of her assistants were also sentenced to one year in prison and another employee of the agency was sentenced to 12 months in prison, including 4 months in prison.

The court also sentenced the three influencers prosecuted in the same case which made headlines in Algeria, Numidia Lezoul, Rifka, and Stanley to one year in prison and a fine of 100,000 dinars each.

The defendants are accused of having scammed Algerian students wanting to enroll in foreign universities, particularly in Ukraine, Turkey and Russia. They were arrested last January and remanded in custody. They are prosecuted for criminal association, theft and fraud.

The Future Gate agency undertook to take care of the entire registration process, including accommodation, for large sums of money. Several students who trusted him found themselves on their own once abroad. The agency appealed to the influencers mentioned to publicize its services.

During the trial, the prosecution requested 8 years in prison for Oussama Rezaki, five years against Seif Eddine Rezaki and Amine Hamouda. The public prosecutor has requested a three-year prison sentence against Souad Amara and two years in prison against the two secretaries prosecuted in this case, Djebali Lina and Taibi Nadjet, risk up to two years in prison.

The prosecution requested one year in prison for each of the three influencers, Numidia Lezoul, Farouk Boudjemline (Rifka) and Mohamed Aberkane (Stanley).

Finally, it was asked to prohibit Oussama Rezaki, Souad Amara and Seif Eddine Rezaki from exercising the function in relation to the charge.
