CAN 2022: Algerian journalists were attacked with knives in the Cameroonian city of Douala, the day before the match between Algeria and Sierra Leone.

The Algerian Football Federation condemned the “cowardly attack” of three Algerian journalists near their hotel.

Three days after the incident, the Algerian ambassador to Cameroon broke his silence, to put the points on the letters concerning what happened.

Algerian Ambassador to Cameroon Boumediene Mahi told a press conference that the Algerian Embassy in Cameroon had contacted Cameroonian authorities after hearing news of the attack.

Mahi revealed that the journalists received the necessary treatment, improved their conditions, and were able to continue to cover the Greens’ matches at Cannes 2021.

The spokesperson explained that there is coordination with the Cameroonian authorities to know the latest developments in the case, noting that the Cameroonian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his regret at this “isolated incident”, stressing that his country took the necessary measures to ensure the protection of Algerians currently in Cameroon.

Boumediene Mahi added that Lamamra and his Cameroonian counterpart had talks, during which the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to protect Algerians during this football wedding.

Lamamra expressed Algeria’s unconditional solidarity with Cameroon and his support for Cameroon’s success for 2021.

For his part, the governor of the province of Douala, Samuel Didoni, indicated during the press conference that the depositary authorities are currently pursuing the investigation and working to find the objects stolen by the journalists.

Samuel Didoni stressed that no country in the world could escape a similar attack, especially since it happened at night.
