Two Algerian soldiers were killed on Thursday evening in a clash with a terrorist group on the border with Mali (far south of the country), the Algerian Ministry of National Defense (MDN) announced on Friday in a press release.

“As part of the fight against terrorism and following a clash with a terrorist group on the border strip in the region of Hassi Tiririne in the operational sector D’in Guezzam in the 6th Military Region, two soldiers fell on the field of honor, in the night of Thursday, January 27, 2022. It is “Second Lieutenant of Career Merbah Eddine Sidhom and contract corporal Nassim Benalioua”, indicated the same source.

According to the press release, “This operation resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists and the recovery of a heavy machine gun, caliber (12.7 mm), two Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, an all-terrain vehicle and a quantity of ammunition of different calibers. Algeria, let us remember, has a long border strip of 1000 km which has been the scene of several clashes between the Algerian soldiers and armed groups, coming from the North of Mali.

Following this news, the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune paid tribute “to the two martyred soldiers” and “presented his condolences to their families and to the members of the People’s National Army (ANP)”. The Algerian Prime Minister, Aïmene Benabderrahmane also bowed “in memory of the two soldiers, while presenting condolences to the elements of the army”, indicates a press release from the government.

And the Algerian Defense added that the Chief of Staff of the ANP, Saïd Chanegriha, “presents on his behalf and on behalf of all the personnel of the People’s National Army his sincere condolences and his deep compassion to the families and loved ones of the deceased, praying the Almighty to grant them his holy mercy and welcome them to his vast paradise, and to grant their families and loved ones all the courage and strength in this difficult ordeal”.

According to the same press release, the Chief of Staff of the PNA “reaffirms the firm determination of the PNA to continue operations to fight against the residues of terrorist groups and the securing of our borders from the scourge of terrorism and crime. organized in all its forms across the entire national territory and in all circumstances”.
