MOSCOW- The Algerian-Russian economic partnership is expected to grow for 2017 through the numerous bilateral agreements signed in 2016, a year marked by visits of the two countries’ officials, notably Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal’s visit to Moscow, last April.
Based on their willingness to pursue the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Declaration signed in 2001 during President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s visit to Russia, Algiers and Moscow have given new impetus to their bilateral cooperation and should, in 2017, benefit from the multiple agreements signed in various sectors of activity.
Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal’s official visit to Moscow last April was the highlight 2016, as it has been culminated by the signing of several agreements in the fields of housing, atomic energy and new technologies, culture and communication.
The important goal is to boost trade that amounted to $ 885 million in 2015.
Concerning investments and trade, the bilateral partnership gained new momentum with the holding of a Business Forum, on the sidelines of Sellal’s visit, in the presence of nearly 500 economic operators.
A Memorandum of Understanding and of Economic Cooperation between Algeria and Russia was signed, reaffirming the two countries willingness to establish a lasting and mutually beneficial partnership on a solid basis.
During Moscow forum, Algerian businessmen were able to deepen the talks with their Russian counterparts on projects defined previously in the previous forums or business councils held in the two capitals.
Those projects are covering the sectors of agri-food, health, infrastructure, real estate, transport, heavy and light industry as well as high technologies.
