The active cooperation between Algeria and Mauritania has resulted in the acceleration of the pace of the construction of border posts between Algeria and Mauritania which will be received during the month of October of the current year. The export of Algerian products has experienced a qualitative leap to Mauritania.

Algerian customs sources reported that “more than 10,000 tons of Algerian products to Mauritania through this post during the first 4 months of 2022”. This provides information on the strategic importance of this border post on the economic and commercial levels. The border post baptized in the name of Chahid Mostefa Benboulaïd is not designed solely to allow Algeria and Mauritania to throw economic and trade with each other.

It is also an advantage for the countries located in the West side of Africa, hence the strategy of redeployment of Algeria via this border post with Mauritania in order to deepen and strengthen its presence in the region which economically through marches and multiple investments which at the strategic and eminently security level to reinforce its stability at the border level with the other countries of West Africa. Algerian officials insist on the “positive impact that this will leave on the local populations, in terms of reducing unemployment and increasing the commercial dynamic towards Mauritania and the countries of West Africa”.

With the arrival of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the helm of power, the importance reserved for the countries bordering West Africa has increased significantly. The conflicts that resurfaced a few years ago not far from the country’s borders, were also an accelerator that pushed Algerian officials to design a new strategic, security, and economic approach in order to guard against the dangers that lie ahead. multiply in the Sahel region and West Africa.

The strategic road linking Tindouf to Zouerate is one of the projects that Algeria has bet on for its realization as part of a strategic approach capable of allowing the two countries to have a common vision of the management of situations of armed conflict. at the level of their cross-border area on the West side of Africa. this road is seen by the Algerian civil and military authorities as an instrument guaranteeing the stability of the two countries and a strategic base to counter any form of threats emanating from enemy countries or in the pay of foreign powers.

The creation of a free zone at the level of the border zone is also a judicious step that will allow the fruitful and rich exchange between the economic operators of the two countries. This will allow Algeria and Mauritania to organize economic and commercial events and to sell their products in the markets of the two countries.
