The national development program for the argan tree sector is gaining momentum with the production of more than 200,000 argan tree plants, as announced by the Director General of Forests, Djamel Touahria, during a visit to Mostaganem. Initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this program aims to revitalize this economic sector, and the current results exceed expectations.

This initiative is of particular importance for Mostaganem, a region that has a long history linked to the production of argan trees. Mr. Touahria underlined the importance of this national program for the sector while approving the proposal of local authorities to create a regional center for the development of the argan tree in the region.

This intersectoral collaboration will make it possible to fully exploit the potential of this resource, in particular by involving universities. Mr. Touahria’s visit was also an opportunity to launch an argan tree rehabilitation and development project, with significant investments in tree planting and the rehabilitation of local nurseries. This approach is part of a broader vision of the preservation and sustainable development of the region’s forest resources.

Furthermore, the wali of Mostaganem, Ahmed Boudouh, has taken important measures to develop the region’s land resources, in particular by proposing the restoration of an agricultural institute and by providing the forestry sector with existing infrastructure to strengthen the training capabilities.

The visit also included the inspection of summer camps carried out on the beaches by public and private operators, thus demonstrating the continued commitment to sustainable development and the rational use of natural resources.

Overall, this initiative demonstrates the commitment of local and national authorities to preserving the environment and promoting sustainable agriculture, while opening new perspectives for regional economic development.
